Meet the Simptons: 2016’s TLG Gives Family

by: The Loken Group on August 11, 2016

The Loken Group is passionate about helping others. TLG Gives allows our entire team the privilege of surprising one deserving family by transforming their home, giving them peace of mind and a comfortable home environment.

This year, that family is, the Simptons.

Justen & Sophia Simpton and their 3 girls have an active family life. The girls are passionate about art, and are active in sports like volleyball, track, archery and running; Justen, who works in concierge services at Hobby airport, is an avid fisherman; and Sophia, a licensed vocational nurse, loves to read.

Their life, however, is more difficult than most.

Justen was born with a damaged liver that resulted in a liver transplant at the age of 14. About 5 years ago, Justen was diagnosed with melanoma. His battle with cancer hasn’t been an easy one. Justen’s had a portion of his mouth removed, and, more recently, has had a relapse, where they discovered an inoperable 6 cm mass in his chest. After a couple months of chemotherapy (where the mass grew another 3 cm), Justen was switched to immunotheraphy, which has a higher success rate than chemo, but is hard on his liver, which makes this Justen’s last option to beat this cancer.

Because of Justen’s medical bills, the Simpton’s home is in need of repairs that they simply aren’t able to afford. TLG Gives is thrilled to be able to make some of these repairs for them – including repairing and updating their kitchen and master bathroom, which were previously in disrepair.

Despite their difficult situation, the Simptons have a contagious positive attitude. They believe that God has a plan for their life and a purpose for Justen’s battle with melanoma, whatever the outcome.

It’s our hope that by assisting with these home repairs, TLG Gives is able to alleviate stress on the family, enable the Simptons to spend more time together, and accomplish some of their goals: in Justen’s case, completing seminary and becoming a Christian counselor, and in Sophia’s case, becoming a midwife.

“Our team is passionate about helping others, and we consider it an honor to be able to complete these home repairs for the Simptons,” says Lance Loken, CEO of The Loken Group. “This family inspires us, and we hope their story will inspire others, too.”

We need your help reaching our fundraising goals!

The repairs on the Simptons home should be completed in early August, and we are still seeking donations to help make all the repairs needed on the Simptons’ home. Donate by clicking here:
